Frequently Asked Questions

These are the questions I hear most from executive directors, board members, and organizational leaders who are curious about AI but not sure where to start. If yours isn’t here, reach out, I’m happy to talk it through.

GETTING STARTED WITH AI

  • Not at all, and that’s one of the things I love most about this work. You don’t need to be tech-savvy to benefit from AI. What matters is understanding what it can do, building the right foundation, and learning how to use it in a way that actually fits your organization. That’s exactly what we work on together.

  • Yes, and honestly, small organizations may have the most to gain. When implemented thoughtfully, AI helps a lean team work more efficiently, move projects forward, and accomplish more without adding staff or hours. The conversation around AI tends to focus on big tech, but the real opportunity is here, in organizations like yours.

  • Absolutely. Wherever you are is a perfectly fine place to start. When we connect, I’ll take time to understand what you’re already doing, where you want to go, and where I can genuinely add value.

  • That’s part of what we figure out together. I’ll get a clear picture of where your team is — their comfort level, current workflows, and goals — and from there we’ll build something realistic and tailored to your organization, not a one-size-fits-all program.

working with me

  • Most AI consultants understand the technology. What sets me apart is that I also understand what it’s like to actually run an organization. As an Executive Director, I’ve lived the bandwidth constraints, the volunteer dynamics, the board pressures, and the resource limitations that make implementation feel daunting. I bring both sides to the table.

  • Every engagement is shaped around your organization’s needs, but most follow three phases: Phase 1 — Discovery & Assessment, Phase 2 — Strategy Development, and Phase 3 — Implementation & Training.

  • Both. We build the tools together, and I train your team to use them confidently and independently. The goal is for your organization to walk away with real capability, not a dependency on me.

  • Most engagements run somewhere between 6 and 14 weeks depending on scope and your organization’s needs. We’ll map out a realistic timeline before we begin.

  • Absolutely. All collaborative work and training can be done virtually. In-person sessions are available as well and may involve additional fees.

board & leadership

  • Yes, and board skepticism is completely reasonable. Any significant change deserves scrutiny, especially one that involves both operational and financial considerations. When it’s implemented well, AI can help recover staff hours, create more consistent and professional communications, and open the door to projects that have been stalled for months. I can help you articulate that value in a way that resonates with your board.

  • The investment in AI tools is typically modest, a fraction of what it would cost to hire additional help. The stronger case, though, is what it frees your team to focus on: membership growth, outreach, fundraising, and the work that actually moves the organization forward. The return isn’t always a line item you can cut, it’s capacity you’ve been leaving on the table.

  • There will be some upfront time required for training and onboarding, I won’t pretend otherwise. But we’ll plan around your team’s bandwidth, decide together who needs to be involved, and make sure the load is manageable. The investment of time now is what makes the efficiency gains possible later.

RESULTS & EXPECTATIONS

  • Every organization’s outcome looks a little different, but the goal is always the same: your team walks away with working AI tools, a clear process for using them, and the confidence to keep building on what we’ve put in place. You’ll leave with something real and sustainable, not just a plan on paper.

  • No. Every engagement includes a post-implementation support period so you have time to get comfortable and ask questions as they come up. I’m not the kind of consultant who hands things off and disappears.

  • Yes, ongoing support options are something we can discuss as your engagement winds down, based on what makes sense for your organization at that point.

WHO I WORK WITH?

  • I work with membership associations, nonprofits, small businesses, and ADR organizations and service providers that are ready to implement AI in a meaningful, strategic way. I have a particular understanding of volunteer-driven and resource-constrained organizations — having led one myself, so if that sounds like you, you’re in the right place.
